Physiotherapy–Osteopathy Bridging Programme

Informations

Contacts, documents, links, and more

The School of Health Sciences Fribourg (Heds FR) offers a unique bilingual Osteopathy programme in Switzerland. The programme is structured in two stages: a three-year Bachelor's degree followed by a two-year Master's degree. Access to professional practice is conditional upon obtaining the Master's degree. The creation of a Physiotherapy–Osteopathy bridging programme enables anyone holding a Swiss Bachelor of Science from a University of Applied Sciences in Physiotherapy to enter the HES-SO Bachelor of Science in Osteopathy programme. Admission to the Physiotherapy–Osteopathy bridging programme is subject to a selection examination. Once admitted, students may have a certain number of ECTS credits recognised. The number of recognised ECTS credits (modules) determines the student's training pathway within the HES-SO Osteopathy programme. The procedures for credit recognition are detailed below.

This section is identical to that of the Bachelor of Science HES-SO in Osteopathy.

To enter the Physiotherapy–Osteopathy bridging programme, candidates must hold a Swiss Bachelor of Science from a University of Applied Sciences in Physiotherapy and be among the candidates eligible following the selection examination.

As the profession of osteopathy is regulated, the Heds FR can only accept 55 new students per year. Admission to the Physiotherapy–Osteopathy bridging programme is therefore subject to a ranking system with a fixed quota, corresponding to a maximum of six students per year.

By having a certain number of ECTS credits recognised, holders of a Bachelor of Science from a Swiss University of Applied Sciences in Physiotherapy may benefit from a shortened training pathway. It is possible to have fixed ECTS credits (Foundation 1) and optional ECTS credits (Foundations 2 and 3) recognised.

  • Foundation 1: Recognition of 85 fixed ECTS credits by equivalence. The corresponding modules are recognised because they present sufficient similarities in terms of both subject matter and competencies. All students in the bridging programme benefit from this recognition of 85 credits.

  • Foundation 2: Recognition of a maximum of 30 ECTS credits relating to the “diagnosis” modules of the Bachelor's programme. These modules may be recognised individually, based on the competencies demonstrated during the “assessment of basic competencies in differential diagnosis”.

Note: Recognition of these modules is optional and subject to a fee (CHF 200.–). Candidates must pre-register for this examination during the admission procedure. Candidates may take this examination only once. The dates are set in advance and are available in the downloadable documents opposite.

  • Foundation 3: Recognition of a maximum of 35 ECTS credits relating to modules deemed not to have been recognised and forming part of the bridging programme, which may be subject to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This RPL procedure is available to candidates with more than five years of professional experience.

Note: Recognition of these modules is optional and subject to a fee (CHF 1 000.–).

In general, the Heds FR draws candidates' attention to the fact that the deadlines for preparing the application for recognition of the Foundation 3 modules are very short. Candidates are therefore encouraged to prepare preliminary application files.
