The School of Health Sciences Fribourg (Heds FR) is aligned with the sustainability strategies of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland Fribourg (HES-SO Fribourg).
Through its politique de renforcement de la durabilité 2025-2030, the HES-SO aims to set new ambitions and make firm commitments in favour of sustainability.
The HES-SO operates within a social, economic and environmental context undergoing profound change. Ensuring a transition towards a sustainable society is a major challenge. HES-SO Fribourg has set new ambitions and firm commitments in favour of sustainability.
The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guide its strategic directions, missions and objectives.
Heds FR aims to place and promote sustainability at the heart of its missions (e.g. undergraduate and continuing education, research, international relations and services), its governance and its values, in line with HES-SO Fribourg, the HES-SO and the Canton of Fribourg, from a perspective of social responsibility.
Together with its partners, students, staff members and relevant stakeholders, it supports the implementation of initiatives and joint, cross-cutting projects on its campus, within the wider community, in the local environment and beyond.
It aims to train future health professionals in « sustainable » healthcare, as prescribed by the framework curriculum, by integrating sustainability transversally into the various courses and teaching methods.
It seeks to develop and disseminate knowledge on sustainability, raise awareness of these issues, and contribute to the social, economic and environmental transformations that are needed and innovative.
As institutions responsible for educating tomorrow’s leaders and academics, as well as centres of research, think tanks and innovation incubators, higher education institutions play a central role in the transition towards a more sustainable economy and society.
