The Transdisciplinary Innovation Project eHealth (PIT eHealth) is an initiative fostering collaboration between students from the School of Health Sciences Fribourg (Heds FR), the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR), and the School of Management Fribourg (HEG-FR), aiming to place technology at the service of healthcare.

Carried out during the third year of the Bachelor’s programme, its objective is to care for individuals living with a chronic condition as well as their relatives, offering self-management support to maintain and enhance their quality of life through technology.

Students from the three universities of applied sciences are tasked with designing a technological tool specifically tailored to this population, taking into account the role and scope of practice of UAS registered nurses in care delivery, alongside the expertise of computer science engineers. The relevance of the tool (or its prototype) is evaluated from the perspective of both patients and nursing professionals.

To succeed, PIT eHealth requires effective collaboration and communication among students from Heds FR, HEIA-FR, and HEG-FR. Teamwork is essential to develop a solution that enhances chronic disease self-management for a targeted group. Furthermore, participating in the PIT enables students to deepen their understanding of complex healthcare challenges through a transdisciplinary approach.

In summary, PIT eHealth is a joint initiative bringing together students from three institutions. For Heds FR students, it serves as the Bachelor’s thesis validating the completion of their nursing degree. For students from HEIA-FR and HEG-FR, PIT eHealth constitutes an extensive practical project conducted over an entire academic year as part of an innovation teaching module.
